Superintendent's Message

Superintendent Taylor

Washington County School District will welcome students back to classes on Aug 12th at all schools (Kindergarten students will begin on a slightly altered schedule - KMS and VES will provide specific information).  WCSD maintained a “B” in the District grade calculation, and increased 2 points! This was done by the hard work and dedication of school leadership, teachers and staff.

While school grades are important and are a reflection of our student’s academic success, it is also important for the District to meet the emotional and behavioral needs of our students. WCSD employs eight Guidance Counselors, two Licensed Mental Health Counselors, a Certified Behavior Analyst and a School Psychologist.  The staff in these positions assist meeting specific student needs and work closely with all schools as well as community agencies.

In recent years the District added additional units to meet student needs, this year is no exception.  The District is pleased to introduce, Ciara Jones, who will serve as a Career Counselor at Chipley High and Vernon High as well as a guidance counselor at Washington Academy of Varying Exceptionalities.

Students returning to school will have opportunities to participate in many extracurricular activities that includes dual enrollment at Florida Panhandle Technical College, Chipola State College, Gulf Coast State College as well as many online opportunities.  Middle schools and high schools, as well as 5th grade at each elementary school, will be using AVID strategies and techniques.  These are proven methods that provide students with the skills needed to be successful in school.  The District also offers a variety of classes for students to earn industry certification.  In addition, WCSD continues to participate in the Community Eligible Provision all students will receive a free nutritional breakfast and lunch.

For the 2019-2020 school year our continued goal is to provide excellent instruction to every child to be an academically successful student and socially responsible citizen.  Therefore, on behalf of the Washington County School District, School Board Members, the leadership and administrative team, professional staff and support staff, I welcome you to join us in preparing your child for their future.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance to you at any time during the school year.  I have an open door policy and always invite your comments.

Respectfully,

Joseph Taylor
